Youth Red Flags

Working Group's Underlying Need

Methods used to radicalize youth—especially online—are rapidly evolving, with emerging trends such as nihilistic violence and 764 creating new challenges for researchers, public safety officials, and the adults closest to young people. Keeping pace with the latest trends is daunting, even for the most digitally literate. Meanwhile, parents, educators, faith leaders, coaches, and other adults working directly with youth often lack up‑to‑date knowledge and resources to identify early warning signs or effectively support at‑risk youth. The Youth Red Flags working group exists to bridge this gap by translating the latest research and threat insights into accessible, usable information to keep communities informed and better protect today’s youth.

Our Approach

The Youth Red Flags working group brings together experts from multiple sectors to share knowledge and coordinate efforts to prevent youth radicalization to violence. To support families, educators, and practitioners, the group produces free educational materials for the general public and curates a vetted collection of resources tailored to those working directly with youth. These resources help everyone understand the latest trends, which warning signs to recognize, and, most importantly, how to have conversations with kids and adolescents about what they are seeing online.

As the threat landscape continues to evolve, the working group regularly develops new materials that respond to emerging trends and needs.

Published Deliverables

Outputs of the group’s efforts include trainings on the topic of youth radicalization and a collection of relevant resources for practitioners.
