Pivoting to Philanthropic Funding: Technical Assistance to Navigate Private Funding
January 15, 2026
This workshop series addresses the many funding challenges facing organizations, state and local agencies, and professionals as a result of federal funding cuts. Many organizations have never received philanthropic funding and this workshop series is designed to help them better understand where and how to look for private funding, read and understand the IRS Form 990, craft a strong case for support, understand grant cycles and donor motivations, and develop proposals and budgets for funding opportunities. Each workshop will build off those before it and participants are encouraged to join what is most relevant for themselves.
This workshop builds on the feedback we received on November 18 and addresses the most relevant barriers to philanthropic funding. We will bring in an experienced grant writer and development counsel to discuss the following topics:
- Making and facilitating introductions
- Translating your work into grant language
- Aligning your mission with philanthropic priorities
- Gauging your likelihood of success
- Submitting a request for proposals
Targeted Violence & Terrorism: Strengths, needs, & risks Assessment & Management tool (T-SAM)
December 4, 2025
Offered in partnership with Boston Children’s Hospital, this in-person training provides clinicians with the first risk assessment and management tool for targeted violence that can be used by mental health professionals working in generalist settings. Harm toward others is a known risk, yet mental health professionals working outside of forensic settings have few if any tools they can use to assess and manage violence risk to inform risk assessment and treatment planning. The Targeted Violence and Terrorism Strengths, needs, and risks: Assessment & Management tool (T-SAM) offers mental health professionals a collaborative, client-centered approach to assessment and management of risk for both adults and children. The development of the T-SAM was informed by an evidence-based, suicide-focused therapeutic framework known as the Collaborative Assessment & Management of Suicidality (CAMS).
